A Fireside Chat with L’Énfant Terriblé M. Jules Aedin
Recently friend, author and all-round blowhard M. Jules Aedin and I got together for a little chat. Obviously not in person, because we are separated by a lot of sea – but I believe one day we will get together and dance in graveyards with vampires till dawn. Until then, we’ll have to settle for part one of our online correspondence…

How Sweet It Is
So I am making my way back onto the net. I think I needed social networking more than it needed me. The last month or two has been pretty rough, and sadly it will be for a while, but I’ve realised that I need to continue on as normally as ever. We all have tough periods, but that’s all we can do.
Anyway, onto better news. I can announce that a while back I was asked by Jordan Castillo Price to contribute a novella to the Petit Morts series that she has been writing with Josh Lanyon.
After I picked myself up off the floor – after all, this is JCP and JL we’re talking about here – I quickly agreed. But on one proviso, I didn’t want it announced until my story was completed and approved. Because it would have been rather embarrassing if after making a big squealy brouhaha that the story was terrible and rejected and I would have had to make a red-faced retraction at some later point.
In the end it’s all good, and my story will be #8 in the series – “One Less Stiff at the Funeral” sees Chance’s sweet treats (now, there’s some kind of euphemism) causing chaos at the service for an unloved family matriarch.
More details, and release dates, as they come to hand!
A Brief Note
I am taking a break from most online activities due to some RL issues. I will post details of any forthcoming releases as they emerge.
Keep well, and play nicely!
“Wings of Equity” Cover and Release Date
My head is spinning quite a bit because the cover has only just been finalised (and you can see why, because my good friend Catt put a hell of a lot of work into it, and it looks fantastic), and I have just found out that my steampunk novel Wings of Equity will be released on July 2nd.
“The truth is that those who make a difference usually get martyred. What good are you dead?”
Ezra Kneebone is most at home in the skies, piloting his airship with his best friend Jazz, even if it doesn’t quite pay the bills or warm Ezra’s empty bed. Those same skies are also the territory of a man known as Icarus who uses his metal wings to steal from the rich and feed the poor. Icarus and Ezra could be soul mates but for one thing: Icarus has a bounty on his head, and Ezra is desperate for money.
Against the wishes of Jazz and her partner, the formidable Lady Bart, Ezra is determined to get his man… in more ways than one. But when Icarus saves Ezra’s life, Ezra realizes he would be betraying a hero—and his heart—if he turned Icarus in. Unfortunately, the bounty is tempting more than one hunter, and Ezra will find that loving a fugitive may mean becoming one too.

Cooking with Simon Murray
So, Simon’s been in contact with me a lot lately (to tell you the truth, he never seems to shut up, even though it’s been almost a year and a half since his and Dec’s story was published). We were talking, and he let it slip that he’s been cooking. I knew he had learnt to master the humble soup while Declan was recovering from his knee operation, but this was something new.
Late News Is Better Than No News
So, I Fell in Love With A Zombie was released last week. Whoops! Which is really slack of me not to do a post then, but I had a horror couple of weeks. (Horror, get it?!?) *crickets* Anyway, I had to ask for an extension for the galley edits of Wings of Equity as well, but they are now completed and handed in.
But, yes, Zombie is out! It may not be your normal love story, but I like it. It’s a little bit of an homage to the kid in me who liked those creepy Twilight Zone episodes in a post-apocalyptic setting. But there are some funny bits as well. Hence the very 1950’s title.
A few things – and links!
I’ve been intruding on some other websites recently, so I thought I should post here because I tend to neglect this journal in favour of blathering endlessly on Twitter.
At Wave’s, I was part of the personal stories of the coming out process. You can find it here, and it’s enlightening reading. Despite the age and geographical differences there is a lot of universality there.
Kassa discussed author collaborations at Three Dollar Bill Reviews, and I answered some questions there about what it was like to work on a book with the dastardly Catt Ford.
And have you ever wondered what Simon looked like in my head when I was writing Tigers and Devils? Head on over to Kris’s, where Simon is hidden amongst some other author choices and vote – if you get the most right you can win six e-books!
